Een eend is altijd goed. Altijd.

Looks pristine. It’s located a whopping 15 minutes from where my parents live. I can have my mom test drive it, she demolished owned a few of these in the 70s.

I would love a 2CV someday, but they are jumping in price pretty quickly it seems...beyond my means right now! Gorgeous old duck though! :)

Googles “eend” in a perplexed manner.

Duck.

Odd, that. You’d expect Duuk or Duik or something.

Same here - though my mum merely dented hers - but I keep wondering to what extent it explains my interest in these little cars.

I didn’t much like them then, and I’m not especially nostalgic for that time, but there’s something about a 2CV like this one that’s utterly compelling.

It’s simple, charming and honest. Something modern cars never are.

After being born I was driven home from the hospital in a Citroën Dyane. I see this as a plausible explanation for my fascination for these cars.

I think they’ve been very quick to hit the plateau around $10-15k that most mass produced classics eventually reach. It’s the stable price point where demand meets supply, because it makes taking good care of a survivor worth it, and an enthusiast won’t lose their shirt on a restoration.

In the case of the 2CV, woeful rust proofing quickly thinned the herd quickly, but consistently high demand and comparatively low restoration costs meant that prices quickly climbed to a level where they could sustain a little cottage industry of which the seller is an example.

Now that you can build 2CVs with brand new chassis, brand new body shells and reconditioned or new drivetrains for about $18k, I suspect that they’ll stick to the $10-15k price range for a good one indefinitely.

Well, Dutch maybe resembles German even more. Ente .

Similar to “Ente” in German I suppose

I guess it is the what-you-see-is-what-you-get simplicity.

Just look at those rear view mirrors, beg pardon: ‘mirror’ singular. It’s three bits of metal, a mirror and a bolt. If somebody knocks it, you flap the window open and push it back. No ‘city mode’ required.
